beauty standards [taken 11/16/15]
beauty standards, for women, are a very important aspect of her existence. not a day goes by that a woman does not think about if she looks good enough, or if her hair is perfect enough, or if her makeup has smudged or not. i took candid these photos of my little sister, probably one of the most beauty standard conscience people i know, and i chose her on purpose for this reason (i was proved right when it took her forty five minutes to get 'ready' for these photos and i was told that i had to edit out some of her 'acne'. she's thirteen). most of these photos were taken without her knowing, thus the drop of the smile she was wearing in most of my other--unedited--photos, and the slight crease between her brow as i told her to 'look in the mirror and watch your eyes'. she watched her mouth, checking for uneven lipstick, instead. beauty standards, for women, are cages set up by society. x
